My little monster

I'm sure tomorrow will be full of pictures from this year, but today we're going to throw it back to last year! Clay was only a couple months old so we just went with a PJ monster outfit that he was able to wear to daycare for the day.

He was so little!

Come back tomorrow to see which costume we picked!

What does a Clay say?

image

"What does a cat do?" Clay mews.

image

"What does a dog do?" Clay barks.

image

"What does a Clay do?" Clay looks super confused then either barks, mews, or says "all done."

Happy Wednesday, friends.

Maybe

Maybe...

...I forgot to title my post yesterday so it just says "untitled." It's gonna stay that way.

...I'm glad I work late tomorrow. Clay is adjusting to his new class at daycare so he just comes home and cries for an hour before bed. I hate missing bedtime but this just makes me sad and I could really do without witnessing it tomorrow.

...I watch Scandal twice every week. I'm not super obsessed (yeah, right) but I feel like it's one of those shows where you always miss something the first go round.

...I kinda like being in bed by ten with my cup of Sleepytime tea and a book. Nerd grandma alert.

...I have new friends hanging out over there on the side. Go check out the "florkens!" We were paired up for the Bigs & Littles Blogging Network and you'll be hearing more about them around here for sure!

...I really stink at the whole flirting/dating thing. And reading signals? Forget about it. Then you add a toddler into the mix? Ehh, at least I don't have to worry about being a bed hog?

...I have at least five unfinished projects lying around and I still go to Pinterest everyday looking for more. Stop me.

...I've gotten Clay three different costumes. In my defense, they were all under $10 each and he should be able to wear a couple of them next year. Just wait til you see what the winner is!

...there's not a single picture in this post so you should just hightail it over to my Instagram for your Daily Clay!

Untitled

So about that one time where I was sick forever and fell off the face of the blogging world...

We are finally on the mend which means there was plenty of picture taking happening in our little world this weekend.

Friday I had to work late so Clay was at dada's and mama hightailed it to the Teeter as soon as I was off to stock up on NyQuil. I then proceeded to sleep til noon on Saturday. Hallelujah!

On Saturday I picked little man up from grandma's and we headed to Target and Trader Joe's just searching for shenanigans to be had. As usual, Clay flirted with every woman who looked twice at him and had to say hi to everybody. Everybody. And then there was the dancing in Trader Joe's. And Clay trying to take a bite out of a gourd. Yes, that's my kid.

Sunday was full of cleaning, football/napping, and wreath making happiness.

And then it was Monday and we both woke up crying.

Nastiness

That's the only word I can use to describe the illness that has overtaken our house. If you need an idea of how things are going, here's this little gem from my IG feed:

And that's about all I have to say. Hopefully I'll be back tomorrow with the usual shenanigans.

Weekend Update

Here's that nasty Monday again. The day of the week where I kick myself all day because I promised myself on Friday that I was going to write all my posts for the week, clean house, and run over the weekend. Bahahahaha. I crack myself up. In my defense I do have a super nasty cough and had a bazillion plans this weekend.

So on to what you're really here for: to see pictures that I've already posted on my Instagram feed; because if there's one thing I'm guilty of, it's over posting on Instagram.

My garland exchange package was waiting on me when I got home on Friday. Doesn't it look great on the brick wall? It perfectly matches the new (to me) couch that I got from Liz this weekend! I can't wait for the Christmas exchange! For details, go visit Emmy's blog.

On Saturday I woke up with a fever and an even worse cough. Luckily some Tylenol and cough syrup helped me get my butt in gear and finish up cookies and cupcakes for Liz's baby shower. It was so much fun to see everyone and after he got warmed up Clay had a blast dancing and being his little happy self.

On Sunday the cough reared it's ugly head again. Luckily Mike had Clay so I got to sleep in until 11:30! That afternoon I packed Clay up and we headed off to the park. He loved it! He's still a little unsure of the slides but we're working on it.

And this is when we get to the random hodgepodge of pictures: My sweet IG friend Erin sent me the sweetest note and the cutest earrings from the Splendor Shop (IG: @thesplendorshop). Liz gave us Chai tea mix and chocolates as a thank you for hosting her shower! I helped my friend Troy decorate his apartment this weekend and he has such fun old stuff that I felt the need to take pictures and share with you.

And that is all for the most random weekend update ever.

It's Friday already????

First off, please forgive me. This is my first time posting from my phone in awhile so I'm not really sure what you're gonna get!

This week has been a little crazy because we went to Tennessee mid week and I'm co-hosting a baby shower this weekend with Amy for Liz, but this has definitely been a fun week!

image

On Monday the kids were out of school so we ate at Chipolte and saw the new Percy Jackson movie. I just hated that all so much... yeah, right!

image

On Wednesday morning I got to wake up and drink my coffee and look at blogs...in a snuggie. After my mom made breakfast and fed Clay. Best morning ever.

image

Clay got his first haircut! My Pappaw used to cut his buddies' hair when he was in the Army and still cuts my aunt's hair so we let him do the honors. I almost cried. I'm gonna miss that baby mullet.

image

My brother finally got to go home from the hospital! He ended up receiving 14 units of blood while he was in the hospital (he has hemophilia for my new readers). Which brings me to a little PSA: if you are able to donate blood, please go and do it!

image

There isn't much that beats driving through the mountains in the fall. On the way home we stopped at an apple orchard and I've decided that when if I ever get married it will be in October, in the mountains and preferably at an apple orchard. I mean, how fun would it be to have everybody pick apples at the reception as the favors????

All the other pictures I'm loving this week:

Falling into Fall Swap

A while ago I signed up for the Falling into Fall swap because, let's be honest, everyone loves fall. I was paired up Libby from My Life as Mrs. G. I knew from the start that we were going to be perfect partners because we had such similar taste!

When I opened my box from Libby, I was blown away! This girl seriously knows how to spoil someone!! And each item was individually wrapped so I got to open a bunch of presents!

See. I told you. She's awesome!

Although I love it all, these are probably my two favorite things! That candle has definitely already been lit on multiple occasions.

And don't these earrings just scream fall???

She even included a PJ set for Clay Baby and cute little froggy bath toys!

I absolutely love it all! I'm definitely prepared for fall now!

Thanks, Libby!!!

Dear Clay,

Dear sweet boy,

There are a couple of things you should know about your mama: firstly, I get sappy weepy easily (stop rolling your eyes with your dad's "duh" look on your face), and I will hunt down any girl that breaks your heart (although said girl should be way more scared of your aunts).

Today I was on my way to grandma's to pick you up and I just started crying- like those ugly tears I'm sure you've seen me get. I realized there's going to come a time when you don't come to me when you get hurt (oh, gosh, here come the tears again). A time when you don't just crawl up into my lap to give me a hug then go back to playing.

You took your first steps yesterday and while I was SO ecstatic that you started taking steps, at the same time I could see you walking across that graduation stage on your way to being an adult.

I feel as though I've missed out on so much time with you already because there were dishes to put away or more laundry to fold or I just didn't put my phone or ipad down and play with you.

No more of that nonsense (I'm not saying I'm perfect and won't slip up every now and then). The dishes and the laundry and the emails can wait until your asleep. They certainly aren't going anywhere (trust me, I've tried). I just want to be there more.

I snuck into your room to take this picture just now (please don't ask how many pictures I have of you sleeping). You're already such a loving little boy with your "friends" you sleep with at night. Never lose that. And always remember, you're never to old to give your mama a hug.

I love you so much, Clay Lucas!

Love,

Mama

What's in a Name

I'm all about a good linkup because who doesn't love a day where someone tells you what to write about? Easy peasy!

The story behind my name isn't terribly interesting so you get to hear about mine and Clay's names. Lucky you :)

Jessica

Where it came from: It was the 80s and this was the most popular name that year. My parents got real creative I tell ya. (You can go to the social security page here to see the top 5 names for each year.)

What it means: I've seen three different meanings: Grace of God, rich, and "to see."

Verdict: I like it. For it to be to most popular name the year I was born, I've personally only known a few Jessicas. For the most part it only gets shortened to Jess when I'm in Charlotte because that's how my friend Liz introduced me to everyone. In Tennessee it's occasionally Jessi (which I don't hate but I don't love at all).

Lou

Where it came from: Lou was my grandma's (Linda Lou) and my mom's (Penny Lou) middle name so it was just a logical choice.

What it means: Renowned warrior (umm, ok?).

Verdict: I love it! I like that I have a name that's been passed down and I think it goes great with Jessica, even as Jessi Lou :)

Clay

Where it came from: My grandfather. He's Arlie Clay and if Clay had been a girl, the name Arleigh was on the table.

What it means: Mortal

Verdict: Of course I like it- I picked it out! I have gotten lots of compliments though and I love that it's not a trendy name.

Sidenote: I found this on Nameberry about Clay: "Clay is a rich, earthy one-syllable name with a southern-inflected handsome-rogue image, featured on soap operas and reality TV..."

Lucas

Where it came from: Full confession time: I watched too much One Tree Hill while I was pregnant (maybe the name Peyton was on the table too (for OTH & Manning)). I don't love the character Lucas but I do love his name! Fun fact- there's also a character named Clay on One Tree Hill!

What it means: From Luciana

Verdict: Love it- duh, I picked it! Although Clay was originally supposed to be called Clay Lucas all the time, he's now just Clay unless he's in trouble.

Weekend Update in Photos

So it's Monday. I'm gonna keep it easy on all of our brains and just share pictures from the weekend with you. You're welcome :)

And the very best thing about this weekend that I didn't get a picture of: Clay took two steps! Go, baby, go!

Blogs I Love: Part 2

see part one here.

Happy Sunday! If you're looking for some awesome blogs to follow, go check out these gals!

...for Lauren and Lauren

Katie shows off outfits that I would actually wear and most of the time she got them for a crazzzzy good steal and it makes me wish I had the patience for the Target clearance racks. She also just had an adorable little girl so the cuteness level at for Lauren and Lauren is off the charts!

Crazy Tragic {Almost} Magic

I started following Michael when I joined her fantasy football league and quickly regretted not following her sooner! She's one of those bloggers that either makes me laugh or nod in agreement at almost every post!

not your dirty underwear

Amanda's blogs was one of the very first that I started following. She also posts outfits I would actually wear and she has a cute dog! So maybe I'm obsessed with blogs involving babies and dogs, sue me.

Karly Kim: Good Enough to Read

Karly's posts are mostly pee my pants funny. Just go take a gander at her Karly's Keywords page. You won't regret it. Promise.

Modern Camelot

I feel like a broken record today. Sigh. Kelly posts cute outfits that I've always wanted to wear but they would look absolutely ridiculous on me! She also has the cutest little girl who is definitely the trendiest tot around!

Go on, check them out. You know you want to do it...

It's Friday, y'all!

I know, I know. I've been a little MIA this week. All the better reason that you should be following me on Instagram where you can get your fill of Clay, my recent craft obsession, and yummy food.

On we go towards my favorite pictures from this week:

My aunt likes to post (mostly embarrassing) throwback pictures every so often that usually make me cringe. This time she came through though and posted this picture saying that it reminded her of Clay. Yup. And also, I still make that same face in 59% of the pictures I take. Life's too short to smile normally in pictures.

I got my Falling into Fall swap box in the mail on Monday from the wonderful Libby. This lady knows the way to my heart- a fall candle. I'll have a whole box reveal up next week with the rest of my goodies!

Usually around lunchtime I go visit Clay and we snuggle and take selfies. It's usually one of the best moments of my day. However, since he'll be moving up to the toddler room (where visiting everyday isn't encouraged) at the beginning of November, I'll have to stop this ritual soon :(

I finally got around to doing one of the projects I wanted to do when Clay turned one. I originally saw this on Pinterest awhile ago here. Then when I was redecorating my dining room I realized I had the perfect frame ($3 on clearance at Michael's!) for the project and it would look great on my collage wall. Every year I'll trace his handprint and put it behind the previous ones and change out the picture.

Clay had to go to the pediatrician on Wednesday for a recheck of: weight, breathing, and ears. The good news: he gained 3 pounds in a month (!) and his ears were clear so we're tabling the tube conversation for now. The bad news: Clay still has some wheezing even with the daily treatments so we will be visiting an asthma/allergy specialist soon.

That's all for now! Happppppy weekend!
