Now listen here, missy...

Today's prompt was to give a piece of advice. I went back and forth all day. Funny advice or serious advice? Parenting related or not? Finally a few minutes ago it hit me.

So from my 8 months of parenting experience, my biggest piece of advice is:

Don't let other people tell you how to parent your child.

I don't mean be rude to people who give advice. I just mean that ultimately you are the parent(s) and you know what is best for your child.

A few of my favorite pieces of advice:

"Oh, that baby needs socks on." When it's 75 degrees outside...

"Formula is the devil." Okay, so I didn't hear these exact words, but I might as well have. For the record, my intentions were to breastfeed exclusively but we got to the point where I just could not physically produce enough milk for Clay. He is now breast and formula fed. And perfectly healthy. Wait. I feel like this is an entire post to itself. I'll revisit this in weeks to come.

Anything along the lines that a child from an untraditional family won't be happy. Clearly we don't have that problem.

And countless more.

I know, I'm rambling. I think I've gotten my point across though so I'll stop.

Also, you should go watch this video. I think I've watched it about 100 times since Clay went to bed.

HERE!HERE!

Forgive me, I haven't figured out how to actually put the video in the post. HELP!

Yeah, so I memed a picture of my son. Insomnia is THE best.

The Things I Don't Like to Talk About & a Cheer up

...or the things I'm most afraid of...

-having to explain to Clay when he gets older why he doesn't have a "traditional" family.

-snakes. snakes. snakes.

-driving in the snow.

-Clay falling while he's learning to stand/walk.

Okay, enough of that. Time to cheer up!

*note: I really need to take my camera to daycare so I can post better photos!

I am really sad that this is blurry. I went to visit Clay today and he kept giving Reagan kisses. Yep, I have that kid.

Free (massive!) coffee from Dunkin' Donuts.

LOVING this scarf and shoe combo!

Umm. This is why I shouldn't take selfies. Ever.

That is all.

Umm...about blogging every day in May...

Remember when I said I was going to blog every day in May? And I had all those great plans for (finally) writing my race recap and for editing photos and updating recipes this weekend?

And then Clay got a double ear infection.

Poof went my plans.

Instead I spent my weekend cuddled in bed with my little man watching Scooby Doo and Gossip Girl when he was asleep. Yes, I'm watching Gossip Girl. No apologies. Teen dramas are the best.

So instead of being upset about my ruined plans I'm going to pick up with blogging every day in May tomorrow. And for today I will leave you with a ton of photos from my camera and phone.

On Friday we got to have a mommy & Clay day before the illness hit and we broke out Clay's circus tent that he got for Christmas.

Then we woke up to the mean ear infection...

Luckily he was feeling better this morning...

In other news...

My son is obsessed with taking selfies.

I wore my great grandmother's sweater the other day. I kinda like it.

My beta, Guinness Bailey (Guinny). I think I almost gave him a heart attack when I took this.

Okay, I'm off to do this...

Blog EVERY Day in May??

It's finally Thursday! Yayyyy!

I'm currently in the process of making a decision about my blog: do I want to keep it small or do I want to grow it? Eeeek! Anywho, while I'm meandering that I thought this challenge would be a good way to practice my writing and have fun! The challenge is to blog EVERY DAY in May with a prompt given for each day.

Since I'm a day behind (let's face it, this won't be the last time this happens), I'm going to double up on posts today.

Day 1: Tell the story of my life in 250 words.

Erk. I feel like it's the first day of school and my palms are sweaty because I have no idea what to say when it's my turn.

I was born one Thursday in September in Knoxville, Tennessee with some crazy red hair to Jerry and Penny. They got divorced when I was a year old and when all was said and done I had 2 half sisters and 2 half brothers. After graduating high school in 2003 I went to King College where I graduated in 2007 with a BoA in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Management. With the exception of a few months when I was younger I lived in Tennessee my entire life until I moved to Charlotte in 2010. In 2010 I was working at a very stressful job that I had a love/hate relationship with so I took a leap and took a nannying job in Charlotte where my friend Liz lived. I ended up working for another family after that and am still with them. In August 2012 the stork (I can't fit that story into 250 words) brought me the love of my life, Clay Lucas. And that's where I am.

Hey, mom

Day 2: Tell about something I know a lot about or something I am good at.

So I'm really good at: Netflixing (so a new word), Googling, and thoroughly documenting my child's life through photos (not saying the photos are high quality but they'll do). Anyway, I'm going to talk about the latter.

20130502-215716.jpg
Oh, gosh. Here she goes.

On average I'd say I take around 10 pictures of Clay a day on my phone (plus some on my camera). I know, you're thinking I'm a little crazy. I also usually post at least one picture a day on Facebook. I've probably lost Facebook friends because of it. Do I care? Uh, no.

image
I think he's starting to hate the pictures.

So (besides wanting to eventually make Clay photo books/scrapbooks one day), the main reason I take so many photos is because my family is 4 1/2 hours away.

I think my mom's heart was broken when she found out I was pregnant because she was afraid she would miss out on so much of her grandbaby growing up. Never fear, mom. She (and my grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousin, and sister) get daily pictures of Clay through text messaging.

image
Today's daily.

I also want to make sure that Clay knows what his family looks like which is why I've started this photo wall in his room.

image

Needless to say, I'm addicted to pictures. I have them everywhere and am fairly certain that I don't have enough displayed.

And that's what I'm good at. Taking and distributing photos of my child.

Oh my. I've got to work at this writing thing. Please be patient.

Tomorrow is Friday!

Jess

Wordless Wednesday: Basement Finds

20130430-220835.jpg

20130430-220850.jpg

Love,
Jess

I'm sorry...

I recently realized I committed a huge no-no. I noticed when I was looking up recipes that some bloggers didn't include the recipe in the blog post but simply a link to the original recipe. I didn't really think anything about it until I stumbled upon this post on Recipe Posting Etiquette from Jenna at That Wife . I urge you to go read this post if you have any questions on the topic. Jenna also includes some great links to other helpful sites.

So, oops. I was always careful about linking back to the original recipe but didn't think twice about posting the recipe word for word. Over the next few days I'll be going through the recipes I previously posted and adjusting them properly and in the future I will only be posting the recipe directly on my site if I've made significant changes or if it's an original (or family) recipe.

Please bear with me as I make these changes and hopefully some more exciting ones (blog design, anyone?) in the near future!

Happy Wednesday!

Love,
Jess
